Music for La Sombrilla

La Sombrilla is a brilliant Sci-Fi short film by the award winning Colombian director Simon
Brand. The film was part of a special TV series by TNT Latino America showcasing films by
directors from several countries in Central and South America. La Sombrilla tells a tale about
the scarcity of the most precious natural resources and how men will use violence to obtain what
other’s have. The film has a unique twist, which is reflected in the music with a clear change
from a traditional orchestral score featuring an Acoustic Guitar to a more modern sound that
blends the orchestra with synths, choir and electronics in the composition titled “Quemando.”
This is an epic story that required an epic sounding score.

“The music for the short film “La “Sombrilla” composed by Gerardo Perez Giusti is
blend of emotive and atmospheric soundscapes that perfectly complement the
film’s dystopian narrative. The Film was produced by TNT Latin America and
directed by acclaimed Colombian film maker Simon Brand. The score is
characterized by its use of minimalist piano melodies, haunting string
arrangements, and subtle percussion elements, which together create a sense of
intimacy and unease. As the story unfolds, the music swells and subsides,
mirroring the characters’ emotional journey and adding depth and complexity to
the film’s themes of greed, mistrust and a dark future. Giusti’s composition is both
understated and powerful, allowing the audience to become fully immersed in the
world of the film, and his use of silence and restraint is just as effective as his use
of sound, creating a sense of tension and anticipation that propels the story
forward. Overall, the music for “La Sombrilla” is a beautiful and evocative
accompaniment to the film, and Giusti’s score is a testament to his skill and
sensitivity as a composer”
